43 Weeks

This little sober suds is 43 weeks this week. He wasn't feeling well today and the poor thing threw up all over himself and then went back to sleep in his crib.
You can't tell very well from this picture, but his hair was completely matted and it had dried all over his eyebrows almost like hairspray. But he got a nice warm bath, and after some snuggles, he seemed to be feeling much better. Here's to hoping he's on the mend!

Nixon's first snow

It wasn't much (we're supposed to be getting MUCH more tonight), but it snowed. Nixon obviously wanted to go outside and try it out!
We don't really have snow clothes for him, so he sat on a tote lid. It let him experience the snow, without really having to get in it.
He wasn't so sure about in, in fact, he really didn't like it much.
He did however love eating it along with the rocks and twigs, but it was just a little too cold for him to enjoy for any length of time. I don't blame him though, I was a little chilled too!

Baby it's COLD outside!

What do you do when it's FREEZING outside and your heater stops running at full efficiency? You dress for the occasion!
Thanks to my sister-in-law Jandi for the adorable and warm hat! It makes me smile every time I see him in it!

42 Weeks

Nixon is 42 weeks and I think we're finally over the major spit up phase thank Heavens! It's also been super cold here, so we've mostly stayed in the house. I'm pretty sure he'll never really walk or crawl so I keep telling him he's just going to be the 12 year old that army crawls everywhere since he doesn't want to move more efficiently. ;) He's thrown more tantrums which I'm not really into, but he's also still so sweet it's hard to stay frustrated with him for too long.

Bojangles'

If anyone has ever been to North Carolina, they've probably seen a Bojangles'.

It's known for it's fried chicken and biscuits. I had never actually been to one before so we thought we would give it a shot!

We were told by our friends here that we had to get the chicken supreme combo, so that's what we got. For a chicken tender meal, it was pretty good but both of us agreed we'd take an In N' Out cheeseburger over it any day! Oh how I miss that place!!!

Valentine's Day

I've seen many posts on different social media platforms about the flowers, candies, etc. Well, Ethan knows me and knows that's not really my cup of tea. We decided, since we're trying to be a little less "spendy" with our money, we'd pass on the commercialization of it. You know the expression "labor of love?" Well that's what we did. To show our love we labored.

Ethan's dad has a separate office space from his office and it was needing a little TLC. He asked if we  wanted to paint the two front rooms and we agreed. We had kind of put if off, and planned to do it this past weekend without really realizing it was Valentine's Day. But the work needed to be done, and Ethan's mom was gracious enough to watch Nixon while we worked.

We spent a few hours Friday night doing some prep work and on Saturday we got some work done. We got all of the trim sanded, caulked, and painted. We actually had a really good time working together and enjoyed uninterrupted time together. Was it my favorite activity in the whole world? Maybe not, but that could be said for most manual labor.

We finished up the day about 8:00PM, and headed home. We packed Nixon up in the carseat, and all of us, including Dwayne and Sarah, headed to Qdoba for dinner. It was cheap and absolutely delicious (my kind of food)!

I can't even express fully how much I love my valentine.
We've been through quite a bit together already, and I wouldn't want to go through it with anyone but him. There are days I look at him and think to myself, "Why did he choose me?" And while I may never fully understand the answer, I feel so blessed that he did. He's the celery to my peanut butter and I love him very much.

This year I was lucky enough to have added another valentine. He is so stinking cute, he kills me. He gives the best slobbery kisses and has a scream that could shatter glass. Every night I go in to his room to make sure he has his blanket over him, and every night I'm reminded how lucky I am to get the sweetest boy.
Happy Valentine's Day!

Swinging

While I was in Arizona back in January, with Kara and Steve being sick and the two older kids in school, Nixon and I took full advantage of the beautiful weather. They have this swing that hangs from the rafters on their back porch, and we thought we'd give it a shot.

It was a huge hit! One of the days we spent almost an hour just sitting out there while I pushed Nixon in the swing. Now that the weather is getting a bit nicer here in North Carolina, I'm tempted to get one of these for ourselves! There's nothing quite like pushing your baby in the swing and seeing him smile and giggle. It's awesome.

Design work

I have been super blessed since moving to North Carolina. I've been wanting to do more design work, and the first month of living here was amazing. I was able to do three logos, and it made me feel so accomplished! I know it may not seem like a big deal, but it was so fun to work with a client (he owns many companies) that pushed me and my designing, and made me feel like I had it again!

I hope there is going to be more work coming my way!!

41 Weeks

Nixon is so full of personality. From his voice, to his expressions, to his enthusiasm when he sees food coming. We sure love this boy of ours and we love seeing his personality developing each and every day.

40 Weeks

As I was getting ready to write this, I thought to myself, "He's officially been out longer than he was in!" Then I remembered, that was true at 37 weeks because he came two weeks early. Sometimes I feel like my mind is somewhere else!
There was no smiles for this guy today no matter how hard I tried. It seems like for the past couple weeks he hasn't quite been himself. It started to make sense when his first tooth popped through. But after it was through, he still wasn't himself. Just this morning, Ethan brought him into me and we snuggled in bed for at least 30 minutes before he started trying to eat my face. Lo and behold, I caught a glimpse and what was there?
A second tooth popping through! Two teeth in two weeks. I guess it's making time up for not having them earlier! Maybe NOW (at least until others start coming through) he'll get back to his cheery, happy self.

He still hasn't really decided to crawl all the time, but if there is a ledge, he will pull himself up and stand. Just the other evening, we were getting dinner ready and he had pulled himself up to one of the dining chairs. All of a sudden he, very wobbly, started pushing and taking steps with the chair! I tell you, seeing all these milestones come, especially one right after the other, makes me so proud to see him growing and developing.
